We picked a perfect day to go snowshoeing in Sandbanks Provincial Park. The sun was glinting off the crisp white landscape, and the clear blue sky highlighted the mist in our breath. Laying down the first set of tracks in the fresh snow is always such a satisfying feeling and for a moment, the world feels is still with only the crunching sound of footsteps echoing through the woods. The best feeling of all however, is returning home to a cozy wood burning stove and warming up with some hot tea and a greasy breakfast.
Between the ages of 12 and 14, every summer my family and I would drive through New England on our way to New Brunswick. I always remembered the picturesque, lush landscape of Vermont. But I have never been there in the winter, so this year, I decided to take our ski adventure across the border.
My husband and I roadtripped out to Smuggler’s Notch for the February long weekend, and I fell in love with the resort from the moment I stepped out of the car. Cozy, quiet, and nestled amongst the sprawling mountains, the resort was exactly what I wished for. Endless snowshoe and cross country trails, long, fun downhill mountain runs and even a Ben and Jerry’s on site! Too much to do with so little time. We will definitely be heading back next year for a longer visit.
