When we visited Port Hope over the Victoria long weekend, we took a day trip to Cobourg. Seven kilometers from Port Hope, the route made for an excellent bike ride, so the following afternoon we set off to discover Cobourg, the largest town in the Northumberland County. (Also, I’d like to mention how much I love writing “Northemberland County” – I feel like I time traveled into the past to the Victorian era with Jane Austen!).
We biked along the highway and through the township, stopping for a break at the end of a pier and looking back at a lovely harbour and beach. What an absolutely charming town, and a perfect day for a bike ride! I wish we had more time to spend in Cobourg, I could have spent an afternoon relaxing on the beach and gazing out at the lake.
Before heading back to Port Hope we needed some sustenance. We ate dinner at Crabby Carol’s Oyster Lounge, a nice little restaurant with a pretty garden patio out back. After downing a refreshing craft beer, I devoured my lamb burger that was topped with olives, hummus and garlic sauce. Such a tasty, comforting meal that gave me all the energy I needed for our long bike ride back.
