My mom worked hard to keep our family well fed. She shopped around on her bike picking up groceries on sale, baked her own bread, pizza and pies. She is an amazing lady but also, a little impatient. She ruled the kitchen, and I was never allowed to cook until I lived on my own. I also grew up eating pretty basic food dishes: lasagna, pizza, ribs and never really discovered my Japanese heritage until later in life. As a result, when I discovered cooking…you could say it created a monster. I was obsessed with trying every recipe, a new dish every night. So now I’m the queen of the kitchen. I love to cook because I love to eat, and I believe that food – is an art.
