Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont

Between the ages of 12 and 14, every summer my family and I would drive through New England on our way to New Brunswick.  I always remembered the picturesque, lush landscape of Vermont.  But I have never been there in the winter, so this year, I decided to take our ski adventure across the border.

My husband and I roadtripped out to Smuggler’s Notch for the February long weekend, and I fell in love with the resort from the moment I stepped out of the car.  Cozy, quiet, and nestled amongst the sprawling mountains, the resort was exactly what I wished for.  Endless snowshoe and cross country trails, long, fun downhill mountain runs and even a Ben and Jerry’s on site!  Too much to do with so little time.  We will definitely be heading back next year for a longer visit.

A Brooklyn Wedding

Another trip to the Big Apple – the city that never sleeps, never gets old, and always has a new adventure waiting for me.  But this time I’m making the trip to attend my friend’s wedding, so it’s double the craziness! Once again, I’m staying in the comfort of Brooklyn, but I’m nesting in an old brownstone with frilly decor and restless open windows – the B&B is like a set from a classic movie.  After only a day, I feel as though I’ve moved in and am jogging through the streets with ease.  The possibilities always seem endless – should I hit the city and wander through Central Park and some art galleries?  Vintage shopping in Williamsburg? Explore the quirky stores in Greenwich Village?  I start racking up the food and shopping bills in no time and feel right at home.  There is an energy within me that comes alive in this city, and it wears me out by the end, but it’s a spirit that I love to ignite.

Seattle, Washington

I thought I would see at least one plaid shirt in Seattle, even more than a decade after the death of grunge.  There were moments where I felt a touch of that old scene, but for the most part Seattle is a nice, comfortable city with either a Starbucks or the homeless sitting on every corner.  I still had my dose of music history though, and was amazed at the stream of people flocking to the memorials of both Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix on a weekday afternoon.  The other highlight for me was the Experience Music Project museum and I could have easily spent an entire day there engrossed in the horror, sci fi, Nirvana and guitar exhibits.
