Growing up I would go to a Caribbean resort every year. I’m not really into the resort scene anymore but I still need to take a break from the long Canadian winter. This past year, I went on my first cruise and I have to say it was fab-u-lous. We went to Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. I’ve been to Mexico and Jamaica numerous times, but visiting them back to back – I realized how lush and beautiful Jamaica is, and hope to return again one day. Being on a cruise was great because it was very relaxing but I was able to go on some adventures at each of the ports along the way . Also, being a water baby, I loved cruising on the open sea. Oh, and the food. Fantastic food. Thank god there was a running track.
Here’s my tip to you: do not go to Cuba during their winter season. A couple of years ago my friends and I went to Varadero, Cuba at the end of January and the weather was terrible. Having a towel wrapped around my head and shivering on an empty beach was not my idea of a warm holiday! Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to Havana but Varadero was still a nice day trip. I have long forgotten the food, but I do remember how wonderful the people were; full of passion and grace.
